City & Guilds 6129 Plumbing Technical Certificate

The course starts with basic pipe work skills and moves onto more complex plumbing tasks, including airing cupboards, bathroom suites, above ground drainage, central heating installation (no gas/oil), lead work and low carbon steel pipework. The various tasks set will provide you with the skills to undertake such work competently and safely once you are working as a Plumber.

The course also contains regular demonstrations, topics include; power flushing, pipe freezing, floorboard lifting, tap maintenance and many more relevant skills. Throughout your training we will provide all tools and materials required for you to successfully complete your assessments. All we ask is that you ensure that you have protective footwear and fire-retardant overalls are required for health and safety.

City & Guilds 6129 Plumbing Technical Certificate Schedule

We aim to stick to relatively small classroom sizes of around six so to improve your learning experience. The tutors that perform the training are not only Fully Qualified, but also work within the industry themselves, so will be able to support our students in every way possible.

Theory and practical sessions are mixed on a daily basis with around 3.5 days per week in the practical workshop and the remainder in the classroom. The theory aspects are taught in our modern/hi-tech training rooms, whilst the practical takes place in our spacious and well equipped work station.

There are both theory and practical elements to of the following modules:

Module 1 -  Induction to the course
Course programme, registration for the 6129 Level 2,  introductions, general procedures for training and assessment.

Module 2 - Health and Safety
The construction industry can be a dangerous place.  It is important to know what hazards you may face and how to avoid injury to yourself and others.

Module 3 - Key Plumbing Principles
Basic processes within plumbing involving hand tools, plumbing materials and science.

Module 4 - Common Plumbing Processes
Copper tube bending and marking out, pipework materials and various fixing devices. Using a spring and machine bender. Compression and plastic fittings.

Module 5 - Cold Water Systems
The supply of water to dwellings, water treatment, water regulations.  Cold water pipework inside buildings, storage cisterns, draining down and flushing pipework.

Module 6 - Hot Water Systems
Hot water services within dwellings.  Properties of hot water, types of hot water systems, air locks, combination boilers and storage systems.

Module 7 - Central Heating Systems
This module covers all types of common central heating system components and controls (no gas, pipework only). Includes fault finding and water pipework maintenance.

Module 8 - Environmental Awareness
Environmental awareness is an understanding of why it is important to conserve energy, dispose of waste properly and prevent wastage of materials.

Module 9
- Effective working relationships
The construction industry and working on sites.

Module 10 - Basic electrical systems
Covers the required basic electrical theory for the 6129 electrical examination

As we proceed through the course, you will create and build a portfolio related to all of the above modules. You will answer a number of questions to ensure you understand the theory aspects and attach photographic evidence of yourself in our work stations to prove you have the practical experience. Once the Portfolio is completed, our internal assessors will mark it provide you improvements and tips if there is any. Once you are happy with everything, your portfolio will be submitted to City & Guilds for certification.
