City & Guilds 2382-12 17th Edition Course Overview

17th Edition courses are primarily aimed at practicing electricians with relevant electrical industry experience, domestic electrical installers and other allied professionals e.g. electrical engineers, contracts managers, designers, consultants, surveyors, and other related trades needing to update and enhance their understanding of IEE Wiring Regulations.

City & Guilds 17th Edition training courses may also be suitable for anyone requiring an understanding of BS 7671 (17th Edition Regs), although prior knowledge in basic electrical science is useful.

Upon completion of the City & Guilds 17th Edition training course it is intended to ensure that individuals will be conversant with the format, content and application of the Requirements for Electrical Installations BS 7671: 2008 (17th Edition).

Approach To 17th Edition Course & Assessment

The course consists of classroom instruction and culminates in a multiple choice online test covering the underpinning knowledge relating to the content and application of BS 7671 17th Edition.

The exam is 'open book', which means that during the two hour exam you will be able to refer to the 17th edition book regulations book.

Course Content


There are eight units making up the course relating to Parts 1-7 and the Appendices of BS 7671:2008: Scope, object and fundamental principles.

    - Inspection and testing
    - Special installations or locations
    - Appendices

Course Entry Requirements

There are no formal entry requirements for candidates undertaking this City & Guilds qualification. However, centres must ensure that candidates have the potential and opportunity to successfully gain the qualification. It is expected that candidates will have basic knowledge of electrical science.
